Halloween, referred to as All Hallows' Eve, was originally a holiday celebrated by various northern European Pagans, in which they honored the dead. Costumes and masks were worn to mimic the evil spirits. It was celebrated on October 31, since this was the last day of the Celtic calendar, and the celebration dates back some 2,000 years.
And the Celts carved turnips instead of pumpkins! Happy Haunting!
